BMW M5 CS officially the strongest M car ever

When M5 or M5 Competition is not enough, then it is M5 CS that applies. BMW is now presenting the new top version, which has more horsepower than any previous M-car, at the same time it weighs 70 kg less.
This summer, the updated BMW M5, and M5 Competition were presented. At that time, nothing was mentioned about an even tougher model version, despite the fact that there was photographic evidence that one was on the way. But now BMW believes the time is ripe for a presentation of the sharpest M5 emblem ever. Yes, the car is even the strongest ever created by BMW’s performance car division M GmbH.

The BMW M5 CS, where CS in the classic BMW way stands for Clubsport (however, it stood for Competition Sport in the case of the previous generation M4 CS), means a number of different changes. The 4.4-liter V8 engine has been pumped up to 635 horsepower, 10 hp more than in the M5 Competition and 35 hp more than in the regular M5. The maximum torque is 750-newton meters, the same numbers as in then both other model versions. The engine is mated to the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic which carries the power to the M xDrive four-wheel-drive system which allows rear-wheel drive.

The CS version is significantly faster than its weaker siblings. 0-100 km / h runs in 3.0 seconds, three and four-tenths faster than the M5 Competition and regular M5 respectively. 200 km / h is reached after 10.3 seconds and the top speed is limited to 305 km / h, the same as in the M5 and M5 Competition if they are equipped with the M Driver’s Package.

Ten extra horsepower has not on its own cut three-tenths of a second in the sprint from zero to 100 km / h. The M5 CS weighs 70 kilos less than the M5 Competition, a weight loss that has been achieved with the help of lightweight materials both inside and out. The hood, front splitter, rearview mirror covers, rear wing, diffuser, engine cover are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic, CFRP. Some of the details have not been painted to expose the carbon fiber structure, for example on the rear-view mirror covers and the front splitter. Even the M5’s standard, openable armrests between the front seats have been replaced with a fixed variant with a lower weight.

With lower weight, BMW has adjusted both suspension and shock absorption so that the chassis can offer even sharper driving characteristics. In addition, 20-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires in dimensions 275/35 front and 285/35 rear have been fitted.

While the M5 and M5 Competition are five-seater, the M5 CS is only four-seater. The rear seat has been lifted out of the car and instead, two shell seat-like seats have taken up space. They are similar to the two front seats but lack a bit of the solid side support and carbon fiber that the front ones have.
