This week Range Rover Sport celebrates a historic achievement from over a 15-year journey: the sale of 1 million units. Anticipated by the Range Stormer concept in 2004 and launched commercially in 2005, the model quickly fell to the consumer’s taste and soon became one of the brand’s best-selling SUVs. It is currently in the second generation and is on track to debut the third.
To commemorate the historic number, Range Rover remembers several achievements of the SUV throughout history. Among the main ones, we highlight the title of the fastest SUV of the Nürburgring (won in 2014 with the SVR version, which made the circuit in 8 minutes and 14 seconds) and the incredible climb of 999 steps in the staircase of the Gate of Heaven, in China in 2018.
For 2021, the third generation of the model will be launched. Details are still limited, but everything indicates that the development is in its final stage. Mechanically, the main novelty will be Range Rover’s modular MLA longitudinal platform, which will allow the assembly of different propulsion options, including traditional combustion engines, hybrid assemblies and even fully electric versions.
